This coming Friday visit McCormick Place in Miami
The original building McCormick Place, constructed in 1924,was first a US Customs Warehouse serving as storage of confiscated goods and look-out post for the nefarious characters coming into Miami via the Biscayne Bay and the Miami River. The property was purchased in 1970 by Edward J McCormick, Sr. Now, three generations later, Sean McCormick is not only reviving this venue but the Downtown area, creating the epicenter for the cultural crossroads of Miami. McCormick Place is a vibrant production-based event space featuring various well known artists.
A year after its opening McCormick place is more solid and attractive to the art community in Downtown Miami. Visit this unique New York style studio every First Friday of the month for the Down Town Gallery Walk. The building first floor is an impressive art gallery, second floor holds incredible artists’ studios.
Last year the doors of McCormick Place Art Gallery/ Lounge opened with a Smashing Grand Opening Event. McCormick Place opened during the 2012 Downtown Development Authority's DWNTWN Art Days inpartnership with the Around Town Magazine, Miami City Ballet, Miami New Times, and featured art & live music.
The venue features exterior murals by established South Florida artists Stephen Gamson and Eleazar Delgado as well as a Black & White classic mural by students at Miami International University of Art &Design, who collectively contributed 100’s of hours, creating a piece that showcases Miami’s attractions and night life.
Known for his boldcolors and iconic symbols, Gamson’s Mural, At the Table with a Flower, prominently hangs on the south façade of the building. Eleazar Delgado, whosework pays homage to Miami’s history, created a rooftop centerpiece for the structure, highlighting and complimenting McCormick Place and the Miami skyline.
