Art Catto Gallery and the Conrad Algarve Hotel & Resort join together to once again present the works of an outstanding international artist. The dynamic cityscapes of Argentine Cristina Bergoglio. She will be featured at the hotel through the end of Summer. Cristina is actually the niece of Argentine Cardinal Jose Mario Bergoglio, who now goes by the name of ….Pope Francis!!!
Due to this family relation, it might be easy to suggest that her works are divinely inspired. However, for the sake of this story, let’s say her cityscapes are a true reflection of her passion for architecture. Bergoglio received a degree in architecture at the National University of Córdoba, Argentina, before moving to Spain to study at the Prado Workshop of Madrid.
Using a diverse range of media, she captures the energy and mystery of the urban phenomenon. Rather than focusing on the buildings, the cars or the people, Bergoglio depicts the living, breathing atmosphere of the city. “They are ever-changing scenarios,” explains the artist. “The city is always a thing of vitality, of movement and sensuality. What I care about is the movement, the urban dance, and to achieve that I use a brush stroke that’s intense, fast and spontaneous. Like capturing the moment in a single brush stroke”

Bergoglio’s cityscapes have been featured in exhibitions across the globe. Her works can also be found in private and institutional collections across Europe and Latin America.
