MIAMI CITY BALLET’S POPULAR OPEN BARRE SERIES RETURNS
Open Barre: Practice Makes Perfect; The Evolution of a Dancer on March 13 & 14 features George Balanchine’s Western Symphony and more
MIAMI BEACH, FL – Miami City Ballet’s popular Open Barre dance series returns to its intimate studio theater in South Beach on March 13-14 with a rarely-seen glimpse into the lifetime of training, discipline and artistry practiced by aspiring professional ballet dancers.
Open Barre: Practice Makes Perfect; The Evolution of a Dancer will feature performances from the MCB School Ensemble, including excerpts from Harald Lander’sÉtudes, a one-act ballet that begins with traditional ballet exercises at the barre and ends with spectacular displays by advanced students, and will close with George Balanchine’s colorful and exuberant Western Symphony.
The performances will be accompanied by an educational conversation between School Director Darleen Callaghan and Principal Faculty member Maria Torija, a renowned dance historian and dancer with the Staatsballett Berlin, on what it takes to train a professional dancer. MCB School students from Levels 1 through Pre-Professional II will demonstrate the progression of training from one level to the next.
Thirty minutes prior to each performance in the lobby, there will be a complimentary “open bar” reception with refreshments. Additionally, Miami City Ballet’s beloved and acclaimed Principal dancer Jennifer Carlynn Kronenberg will be in the lobby during the reception posing for pictures and signing her book “So, You Want to be a Ballet Dancer?,” a guide for young dancers who want to know the ins and outs of becoming a ballerina.
